This is my first purchase from tough traveler I am not paid or given any discounts for this review. I am a gear head I bring my pack everywhere I work outside all day every day. I decided to give up all foreign made gear this year so I was looking for pack made in USA this pack has exceeded my expectations. I love it my wife and kids are tired of me telling them how awesome it is lol. Great size Confort and toughness you will not be disappointed.
Already took it to UK, Ireland and Sweden and a few US trips and it’s performed well. Big enough for business items and clothing if a short trip. Well built and no visible damage from traveling.
I travel a lot for work (high voltage engineer workg in Europe), wanted something to hold laptop, site documents, notebooks, phones/tablet/chargers/digicam/pencil case, sunglasses, all the usual stuff you need on a business trip. I had an old MEC Campus that I’d been using since 2012 or so but one zipper had already been replaced and I was beginning to have nightmares about the next one in line bursting while running to catch a flight. So I stopped into TT and here was their TOUCOM hanging on the rack in this gorgeous black/royal blue, with all the bells & whistles (Note: get it with everything, the extras are well thought out/integrated and totally worth it). For example, wherever I am, on the plane, in remote offices or on site, I’ve gotten in the habit of keeping my digital camera (Canon G7x mk II or an older Lumix ‘travel zoom, depending on the mission) in the left water-bottle mesh pocket and I typically only sling the pack on my left shoulder…so when I want to shoot something quick - bang, the cam is in my hand (I keep the bulky laptop charger + international adapters in the other mesh pocket). I’d gotten really used to the MEC with another 1/2-main compartment, I’m still struggling a bit with organizing without it…but that is my ******. The total comfort (you could load this thing with rocks) and bullet-proof construction make this the perfect go-to business/site pack. Would be perfect for photographers, musicians, etc. BY THE WAY the other CRUCIAL selling point was that this pack, like the MEC, FITS UNDER AIRLINE SEATS! - unless you’ve got it like loaded to bursting, but even then, mostly it just slides right under. This was a critical point for me. I have long legs but I usually get one foot next to it and the other slid under it for take-off and landing, and during the flight I pull it out and under my legs so I can stretch the legs. I like window seats and with the pack there I can pull out the Economist or some papers to read or the lap-top, or the camera if I want to photograph something out the window (massive tropical T-storms, desert features, etc). None of the other big brands touch TT for bullet-proofedness - I have big TT travel duffles from the early 1980s, still in use. BTW II: I had gone to the shop to have them re-sew a ’slipped panel’…it was cut a tad short, and over time, the zipper ‘frame' had pulled away from the panel (if you sew you understand what I’m taking about). They repaired it overnight, no questions asked. The German word ’schlicht’ fits TT design. Esp the translation ‘unostentatious’. This stuff is not about bells & whistles, it’s about rugged, practical functionality (somewhat like MEC stuff, actually). The Northface vibe is into marketing; but competition in this niche is fierce; all the pretty stuff eats up the production budget. TT puts the work & $$ where it counts. Safe travels
